A Pumpkin Idea or Two

This Halloween the most versatile and interesting squash is a pumpkin. It had been depicted as magical in American culture for many years. In several version of the story Cinderella, the Fairy Godmother turns a pumpkin into a coach to take Cinderella to the grand ball.

During Haloween, millions of people celebrating the holiday purchase and carves Jack-O-Lanterns out of a pumpkin. There are pumpkin farms that get many visitors during the fall season who load up on pumpkins, squash and corn. Big pumpkins are common because they will make the most dramatic showpieces.

When sleeting your pumpkin at a farm, it is common that you will bring it to the weigh station to price it out. You will then be able to bring it to a trough and scrub the dirt off it with a scrub brush.

A common way to carve a pumpkin is to cut the top off, using a very sharp knife. Once the top is cut all the way around, the stem can be pulled up to open the pumpkin. Then, the messy work begins. Using a large spoon, hands or even a special tool, all the seeds and stingy insides should be removed from the inside of the pumpkin. Then, spearing them out on a cookie sheet, they can be sprinkled salt and out into a 350-degree oven for a delicious snack. Your nose will tell you where they’re done. Pumpkins bring joy not only on this Halloween because a pumpkin can be made into soups, stews, muffins and cookies also!
