Female Halloween Costumes

Monday, November 9th, 2009

The best part of Haloween is probably all of the costumes – in fact, being a male, this Halloween is one of the best holidays of the year. Why is that, you might ask? Simply because of the nature of female Halloween costumes.

Female Halloween costumes have definitely begun to follow a trend, with no end in sight. This trend is to take any and every possible costume idea for females and making them “naughty”. Naughty female Halloween costumes are everywhere, and men everywhere are grateful, right? Well, not exactly. While I must admit that the additional amount of skin showing on October 31st, I have to say that the naughty Halloween costumes have gone a little too far.

Don’t get me wrong – I like seeing the sexy outfits as much as the next guy, but some of these naughty female Halloween costumes have gotten a little ridiculous. Sure, something like a naughty female devil makes a certain amount of sense. But some of them have gotten completely ridiculous, like a naughty cat. I am sorry, but there is nothing provocative about a cat, and the idea that a women would dress up as a cat to be seductive is weird.

In fact, all of these naughty female costumes are starting to blend into one another. Sure, they seem like a good idea at the time, but remember, you are not going to be at your costume by yourself – there are going to be dozens or hundreds, even thousands of other people, and you have no idea what they are going to wear. Although, it is become awfully standard for females to wear naughty Haloween costumes and, naturally, to look like everyone else.

So if you want to stand out this Halloween, avoid the naughty costumes. What sort of female Halloween costumes might I recommend? I think it is always good for a lady to show that she has a good sense of humor, and there are a lot more funny female Halloween costumes out there than you might think. You might be the only woman at your party not dressing up naughty, and that will definitely let you stand out; in a good way. Of course, if you are going to go with the naughty costumes, please do not choose something that cannot really be naughty; you will look ridiculous, especially if other ladies dress up as something that’s not naughty – then you don’t even blend in.

Maternity Halloween Costumes Selected

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

This Halloween is not just reserved for the joy of children. Adults love to celebrate Halloween, including pregnant women. Pregnant women may have had problems finding maternity Halloween costumes in the past, but now there are a wide variety that are easily available. Some Halloween costumes for women are categorically risqué, and maternity Halloween costumes are no exception. While some women try to conceal their pregnant mid sections, others flaunt it. Some women choose to accentuate their legs and arms instead. Some common maternity Halloween costumes include: a Maternity Devil Lady Costume, a Maternity Angel Costume, a Red Hot Mama Costume, a Juliet Costume, a Roman Toga Mistress Costume, a Statue of Liberty Costume and many more.

While pregnant women are strongly discouraged to drink, many still attend Haloween parties and have a wonderful time. They can still dance, bob for apples; compete in this Halloween costume contest, etc.

There are many places to purchase maternity Halloween costumes such as a costume shop, a big box store or online. Most of the costumes do not come with accessories. For example, a witch costume will not include a broom or a doll costume will not include a wig.

Many maternity Halloween costumes show off a woman’s legs. The skirts or shorts are short and the legs look longer. Most of the costumes fit up to dress size fourteen. While costumes sizes vary, maternity Halloween costumes range from thirty to sixty dollars. If they are purchased online, shipping will have to be paid for as well.

One very original and funny maternity Halloween costume is a large sandwich board that resembles a typical name tag someone may see at a meeting that the woman wears over a black turtleneck and leggings. The costume says “HELLO I’m PREGNANT!” as if the person is named “Pregnant”. It gets a lot of laughs and is a good way to break the ice. Another clever costume is when a woman again wears a black turtleneck and leggings with a large soft foam stove over the front of her body. The oven, which is part of the stove, has a visible foam bun in it. This plays off the common term “bun in the oven” and makes many people smile.

Since a pregnant woman’s belly is round, there are many ways to play off the shape and make it seem like a natural part of the haloween costume. You can basically paint the belly to resemble anything round like a sports ball, vegetable or globe and then dress like whoever would be holding that particular object.

Adult Tinkerbell Costume Idea

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Going in an adult tinkerbell costume at least makes some sense not only on the level of fun, but in the larger context of society’s subversion of traditional “morals” and “values” as rendered through the lens of Disney’s most famous films.

The past three decades have been a time of rapid and near wholesale change in western culture. Sadly, innocence is a thing of the past – some would say with innocence has gone “class” and “respect”, but I’m neither nihilistic nor sanctimoniuos enough to buy that argument – and with the loss of innocence comes a desire to subvert those leftover markers of innocence that are still prevalent in modern culture.

Which brings us to the notion of the adult tinkerbell costume. Tinkerbell, as most people remember her, was the pint sized fairy from the Peter Pan movie who could sprinkle pixie dust on certain people or animals to make the fall asleep, or in certain instances, even do her bidding. She’s the picture of innocence that Disney loved to illustrate in his films, so that makes an adult tinkerbell costume completely ripe for subverting the whole notion of Disney’s wholesome, innocent world.

The irony is that Tinkerbell herself, in the film, isn’t exactly the most innocent or wholesome character. She’s actually rather jealous, vain and self-centered. And she wears a very, very short skirt. Take this excerpt from exampleessays.com:

In 1953, Disney released the classic cartoon tale Peter Pan. The movie has become a staple in American children’s film. Despite what one might think, Peter Pan contains blatant sexual stereotypes and constantly portrays females as conniving and jealous.

Tinker Bell’s jealousy of Peter and Wendy’s friendship portrays the most obvious case of jealousy in Peter Pan. Throughout the movie, whenever a third party mentions Wendy, Tinker Bell turns crimson red and gets infuriated at just the thought of her. Even before Tinker Bell meets Wendy, she gets agitated at just the sight of Peter talking to her. During the scene where Peter is first introduced to the audience, Wendy tries to give Peter a kiss because he complimented her stories. Tinker Bell will not allow this and flies towards Wendy to pull on her hair…

Of course, that’s assuming that “adult” means “sexy,” which ends up being a whole new can of moralistic worms in and of itself. Personally I find the sexualization of innocent icons to be, as I said, hilarious. But be aware that if you do as much, you’ll be making a political statement of your own that is sure to draw some strong reactions.

Maternity Halloween Costumes Ideas

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Being pregnant does not mean missing out on life. There are some things that you can not do for the health of you and your baby, of course, but there is no reason to miss out on normal life events if you are feeling up to participating in them. If you want to dress up for Halloween while you are noticeably pregnant, there is no reason why you should stay home. There are some great costumes and ideas out there for maternity Halloween costumes. Find what you like, tweak it for your state of pregnancy, and then go out and have a fun Halloween with friends, family, or coworkers.

What you want to get for your maternity Halloween costumes depends on how pregnant you are when the end of October rolls around. If you are about to give birth, you may not feel like being up and on your feet walking around the neighborhood or going to a party where you may have to stand for a while, but you can if you feel good. Make sure whatever you choose is rather lose and does not constrict your stomach or you may feel uncomfortable really fast. Also make sure you wear comfortable and sensible shoes or you are not going to last very long.

If you are not quite near your due date, you have more options for your maternity Halloween costumes, but you still want something that is comfortable. Around six or seven months, you may be feeling a bit off kilter and your balance may not be what it once was due to quick baby growth that throws your body’s center of gravity forward. Keep that in mind if you are thinking about maternity Halloween costumes that may require you to wear heels or that may restrict your eyesight. You can have fun, but you do not want to get hurt because you did not think about your comfort and safety.

When you are short on ideas, you can use something that showcases that fact that you are pregnant. You don’t have to do this, but after half of your pregnancy is gone, it is rather obvious that you are carrying a baby. If you want to do something fun, think about dressing up as someone that you may not think of as being pregnant. This could be a nun or perhaps a rather uptight looking librarian – or, you could go even further and be a pregnant man or perhaps a really old lady. These maternity Halloween costumes are not for everyone, but they are sure to get a reaction.

You can also have some fun with your large stomach for your maternity Halloween costumes. You can always think of something round to paint on your stomach like a pumpkin or perhaps a beach ball. You can do whatever you want. If you want to use paint, make sure you get something that is safe for a pregnant woman as some of it may leak into your skin. You may want to look for paint that is made with all natural ingredients from plants.

Women’s Halloween Costumes

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

capture3Finding a good Halloween costume is not as hard as it used to be; and this makes it harder than ever. Confusing? Let me explain. It used to be difficult to find a good Halloween costume – you either had to rummage through second-hand or consignment shops, order it weeks in advance in a catalog, journey to the overcrowded and understocked costume shop or worse: make it yourself. But now, with seasonal Halloween shops opening up before Halloween all over town, and the limitless number of stores online selling thousands of Halloween costumes, finding great women’s Halloween costumes have never been easier – or harder.

The reason it is hard to find great women’s Halloween costumes is that, in the past, finding the great women’s Halloween costumes meant precisely putting in the work. Now that anyone can put in the work, since there’s little to no work at all, you can really find it hard to find the great costume that will set you apart at your Halloween costume party this year. Luckily, here are some ideas or methods to finding truly good women’s Halloween costumes.

First of all, it has become a little too easy for women’s Halloween costumes. If you are of a certain age, you would simple go as a “naughty” fill-in-the-blank. Naughty nurse, naughty cat, naughty devil, naughty angel, naughty teacher, the list goes on and on. In fact, with all of these naughties running around, the best way to go for women’s Halloween costumes is to avoid the naughty.

Does this mean you have to go as something ugly? No, of course not (although ugly plus scary equals a really great costume too). What I suggest is something that seems to work for men: humor. Women have focused so much on dressing up in provocative costumes that highlight their appearance, that those costumes that can garner a well-earned chuckle really stand out – in a good way. Why this is so good it demonstrates that you do not take yourself so seriously and that you have a mind of your own; all by just doing something silly and not sexy.

I think when women’s Halloween costumes demonstrate a great sense of humor, I find that it is a more interesting, fun and unique costume – and certainly stands out from all the tramps out there. Go with a goofy or silly costume and have one of the best costumes at your party.
