Halloween Floral Decorations One

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Halloween is one of those holiday celebrations that have become firmly entrenched in American traditions. If you have kids, or enjoy visits from the trick-or-treating crowd, you want to prepare your home to attract kids of all ages … this means you’ve got to make this Halloween experience memorable, in a scary sort of way.

One inexpensive and spooky prop, to set the stage, is found in your judicious placement of Halloween floral decorations. When the kids are making the neighborhood rounds, they look for homes with enticingly scary decorations … those are the homes they want to approach, giggling and hanging on to each other, anticipating not just the treats, but the fullness of the Haloween experience. In any case, they leave with treats, but scaring them silly is all part of the fun. Easy, but carefully designed Halloween floral decorations, are your first step to entice children to brave the frightening path to your door. Here we’ve got a few ideas to make your door a magnet. Better have plenty of treats on hand!

The traditional colors of Halloween are black, orange, rust and bright yellow. Following this color scheme is key to the successful Halloween decoration campaign.

These ideas are suitable for either a porch railing or a simple entryway. Naturally, you’ll need at least a couple of Jack o’ Lanterns, carved out to shed some light and gain attention.

For a porch railing, you might want several medium sized Jack o’ Lanterns, set at two foot intervals. The light from the votive candles inside Jack serve to highlight your Halloween floral decorations, set at a safe distance from each Jack o’ Lantern.

One of the easiest of Halloween floral decorations can be made with plastic vases of fake flowers. However, using real flowers that you pick up at the supermarket can be used to great effect. Chrysanthemums, in the orange and rust shades, are in season and lend themselves naturally to a Haloween themed bouquet. Daisies are easily dyed by immersing them in a vase of water overnight, tinted with food coloring. You can even make black daisies, using a couple of drops each of red, blue and green food coloring. Use the same color formula to dye fronds of ferns. Mix and match!

Dried flowers, in Halloween colors, also make excellent and reusable floral decorations.

For an entryway, here’s a great Halloween floral decoration: submerge a wide vase, weighted down with marbles at the bottom of the vase, in a large punch bowl. Fill the vase with a bouquet of flowers in Halloween colors and surround the vase with floating candles in an orange-tinted punch bowl of plain water. Use a glue gun to fix a short length of string to the bottom of the candle, with a lead weight to hold the candle in place – you don’t want to set your flowers on fire!

Enhance your Halloween floral decorations with fluorescent ribbons, tying the bouquets, or rimming the punch bowl. Black streamers, strung along the porch or entryway and gilded with glitter serve to showcase your display. ‘Spiderwebs’ from a crafts store add to the spooky effect. Strings of Halloween lights work wonders in adding zest to your floral decorations.

Try suspending a few helium balloons above your Halloween floral decorations – use magic markers to add faces to these ghostly apparitions.

Now, your home is ready for the festivities! If you’re hosting a Halloween party, you can continue your outdoor theme indoors. The kids will love your Haloween!

Artificial Pumpkins this Halloween 1

Halloween Fun With Artificial Pumpkins

No matter how you choose to go about decorating for this Halloween, there is always room for using artificial pumpkins. These are cheap and easy, and that means you won’t pay a lot for something that you are only going to use for a short time during the year. These have other uses as well, so when you go to buy your plastic pumpkins, make sure you get enough. They are not good for much else during the rest of the year unless you use your imagination. Kids love them and they can be scary, funny, or spooky.

One of the most obvious uses for the artificial pumpkins is to use them when children go out for trick or treat. These made great candy holders and they will not rip like a bag tends to do. If you can find glow in the dark artificial pumpkins with a handle, you have something safe and easy to use for your children. They come in a few different colors, but orange and green are the most common colors. If you get a certain size, you can tell your children they have enough candy and its time to go home. That limits how much they get and how much you end up taking away from them.

Artificial pumpkins of the plastic variety are great for holding items you need for a party or for any other types of get together during or around Halloween. If they have the jack-o-lantern face on them, they are just for Haloween, but if they are not, they can be used for the fall and Thanksgiving seasons as well. You can use them to hold candy or other fun food, or you can put things in them like leaves or gourds for a neat looking centerpiece or decoration for the season.

Your artificial pumpkins do not have to be the cheap, plastic versions. There are some great pumpkins made of glass or ceramic that look great for this Halloween, fall and Thanksgiving. These can be used for seasonal decoration as well, or can be used as a centerpiece on their own or with other items. You can find these in some department stores, but the very best places to find these are both online and in your local chain store of your favorite craft store. They usually have hundreds of different seasonal items from which to choose and most of them are unique.

If you shop around, you can find small, artificial pumpkins that can be used for decoration, but they can also be used for fall events. If you know someone who is getting married in the fall with a fall theme, artificial pumpkins can make great additions to table tops or could be small wedding favors. You may also find picture frames with the pumpkin theme that work well. Whether used for fall seasons or the holidays, pumpkins are a great addition to almost any event, and the artificial type are certainly going to last much longer, even if they do not look as good as the real thing.

Decorating With Pumpkins

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

The changing color of the leaves means that fall is upon us. It also means the beginning of pumpkin season. That’s good news for the farmers who have waited all year for this 8 week window to sell their crops. Whether it is for Halloween or Thanksgiving you have plenty of options for decorating with pumpkins.

First up for anyone interested in decorating with pumpkins will be Halloween. Jack-o-lantern pumpkin carving has been around ever since the early 1800’s. In the 1949 Disney version of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” the Headless Horsemen hurled his own fiery pumpkin at poor Ichabod Crane and forever cemented the image of the devilish Jack-o-lantern. As the popularity of all things Halloween has grown so has the popularity decorating with pumpkins. Nowadays you can buy intricate carving templates and tools to craft amazing pieces of pumpkin art. Placing a candle inside your hollowed out pumpkin provides a warm glow and makes for a perfect front porch or window display.

Usually when someone decorates with pumpkins during Halloween they are letting trick or treaters know that their home is “open for business.” Although picking your own pumpkin and carving it can be a lot of fun, you can also find plastic jack-o-lantern pumpkins for your Halloween decoration display. Just like with Christmas decorations, these pre-fab pumpkins can be plugged in to light up and in some cases even provide spooky noises for all who dare to come close.

Once Halloween is over and the jack-o-lantern has soured, you can still consider decorating with pumpkins for the Thanksgiving holiday. This is where size really does matter! You can create a nice display for the front of your home with a grouping of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. Mingle some bright colored leaves and your mini pumpkin patch becomes a friendly welcome for any visitor.

Inside your house, you can utilize a wide variety of smaller pumpkins to decorate with. Beyond the classic round orange type, you’ll be amazed at all the different sizes and colors of gourds that would all fall into the pumpkin category. Look for baseball size gourds to arrange in a bowl as a centerpiece or interspersed across a mantle place. Mix and match the colors and shapes. You can even cycle out the pumpkins so that you have fresh groupings. The bottom line is that decorating with pumpkins is only limited by your own creativity. You’ve only got a little bit of time, so get pumpkin picking!
